We are seeing more young people drawn into serious sexual offence cases, often without a clear understanding of how the law defines consent and responsibility.
This is not because young people do not care—it is because the law is not always clearly explained before harm occurs.
I am proposing a Falkirk pilot to introduce age-appropriate legal education on consent and sexual offences within existing school programmes, developed in partnership with education and legal professionals.
This would give young people clear, practical understanding of legal boundaries in real-life situations, helping them make informed decisions and avoid harm.
As an MSP, my role is to support this pilot, ensure it is properly designed and evaluated, and—if successful—advocate for wider rollout across Scotland.
Because prevention starts with understanding.
